sorry to hear that was the last show on Sunday. Couldn't believe it. Don't know any other shows like it on radio!
- Richard Gilpin, Donegal
Wow, I felt a tear well up as I listened to your final show today. From "Ballymena Cowboy" at CSSM, to Lucan, to First Antrim, I've always enjoyed your company. The weekly connection has been invaluable... grace and ubuntu to you my friend. I'll be drinking a beer in honor of Rhythm and Soul tonight and Jenny will think that it's just another part of being a crazy Irishman, but she'll never fully understand. I can't believe that you're going off the air. Your show has been an important part of my weekly schedule. I usually listen on either Wednesday or Thursday afternoon and then a second time on Friday afternoon. I'm going to miss my weekly connection with Northern Ireland through the web. I suppose I'll have to put up with 'Talkback' or some other Radio Ulster show. Perhaps you could move into the world of podcasting and continue to provide us with something to listen to.
- Neil Craigan, Virginia
Just listening now to your last show!I didn't know as I missed out on last weeks show. What happened? Your first five words made my heart sink!It was a great 10 years and I only caught on to the show in the last couple of years. thanks for everything! what's next? You’ve got to have an outlet.
- James Davis, Belfast
Stocki, thanks for the show. It has brightened up many an evening preparing lessons for the weeuns. Over the Rhine, Rich Mullins - the best! How will I know which albums to buy now?
- Mark Stevenson, Ballyclare
Great show on Sunday night steve. was hoping for a bit of switchfoot or the violet burning and wasn't disappointed. a big and unique gap in the airwaves is left... all the best
- David Mitchell, Belfast
Hi Stocki - let me add to the list of emails and messages to say thank you as well. I really will miss the show. Keep us up to date with music that is 'good for something' on your website.
- Andrew Smith – Dublin
great final show steve! Couldn't help but growl at yer man at 9 announcing the new 'seemless' evening of music next Sunday. Crying shame but in the 10yrs you've introduced people to some amazing music, and no doubt more than a few to an amazing God.
every blessing to you and yours
- Stuart McCrea, Millisle.
There will be a rhythm and soul shaped hole on a Sunday night
- Barry Vance, carrick
Thanks for all those shows Steve and especially for the last few weeks. I don't know how I am going to enjoy Sunday nights any more and how to get through web time without endless repeats. Does this mean back to Radio 2??
Bill Polley, Carrick
Steve, Bye for now - didn't hear R&S every week but you always had lots to enjoy. I'm sure you won't be away for long!
God bless.
John Bustard, Portadown
Yes, I’m in a bit of mourning and I’ll probably now get back into the world more and away from my Sunday afternoons tuned into to BBC Radio Ulster. Yeah, it’s a bit weird grieving the radio show, your leading us through all this so many miles away.
Ross Eagles, High Plains, Alberta
So sorry to hear that Rhythm & Soul is ending. I've listened for several years over crackly AM and then over Sky. Great programme and a real blessing - you've built up my music collection for me. Over the Thine & VOL have been particular favourites. I will miss the show greatly.
- Andrew Macauley, Aberdeen
Can't believe it's the last show. It's tragic! Have soooo looked forward to your updates on contemporary Christian music and secular stuff viewed with eyes of grace. All the best for the future.
- Gladys Montgomery, Banbridge
Great stuff. Music some good some not so - bit like a holiday or a curry - we all have differing tastes ..............But I have always loved the range of stuff and meeting new artistes - especially the Northern Irish!!Thanx for the lot!
----Pip Wilson, London
Are they really taking u off the air, first it was G Jones, Now R an S ! the end is near!atb
- David Shaw, Belfast
So sorry to hear that the R&S series is coming to an end - I and my family have been really blessed by it over the years - and enjoyed your introduction to so many fine artists as well - still think Kate Campbell "Look Away" from Rosaryville was among the highlights - would it be too much to ask to squeeze it in this Sun? - with Best Wishes for your retirement (!) –
- David Torrens and Family
have been meaning to email you for months to tell you how much I enjoy Rhythm and Soul but your news last Sunday night finally forced me to tell you that you're great. Couldn't bring myself to email until today - like all one sided break ups it has taken a while to sink in. Gutted is the best word to describe my feelings. Not as gutted as all those girls were when Take That or Boyzone broke up but I now have a glimpse of what they must have felt. I bet you have never been compared to Take That or Boyzone before? Like many of your listeners you are the highlight of my Monday morning. And I know that a couple of my mates from the Students Union still listen to you after all these years and they will be gutted too. So thanks for helping me broaden my music taste and most importantly helping me to look beyond generic worship music. Enjoy your Sunday afternoons with the family.
All the best
- Michelle McAuley, Ballygowan
sorry to hear that rhythm'n'soul is coming to an end - the end of a mighty era indeed.
- Dr. Gareth Higgins, Tullycarnet
Just a few words of thanks for the great music you have been playing on the show, and the platform you have given to new artists, especially the ones from N I. Sunday nights will never be the same.
- Eddie Chittick, Belfast
Just listened to the latest show over the web and (as with a quite a few others I would guess) wanted to email you and say thanks for the music over the last few years. It’s been great listening and being introduced to so much quality new material. I’m gonna miss the soundtrack to so much of my admin on a Mon/Tues !!
- Gareth Davies- Jones, Northumberland
Just finished listening to last nights show... still in shock that this is the end of this particular journey (what will those of us out in the virtual radio land do now?!? listen on demand was such a joy when working away, the sound of R&S in the background) Great to hear Frank Ferguson again... I was just listening to Astral Weeks (this week) and I thought of him, he was able to do that Van thing and make Belfast sound mystical, mysterious and very cool.
I can't believe its over ten years Steve!! I can remember sitting in Dun Laoghaire listening to you dedicating Sheryl Crow 'everyday is a winding road' to us on the ocassion of our wedding (10th Anniversary this December!).
Me-hopes something will entice you back to the airwaves because we need you to introduce the tunes and bands that otherwise would slip under the radar.
- Paul Bowman, Saintfield
Can't believe it!! gob smacked!! might be more accurate.
I am listening live
if I had heard it on Monday on the Hillhall Rd I most likely would have ended up in a hedge Thanks for 10 wonderful years Sundays and all other times will have a big gap.
The thoughts and music have kept me going on the journey when most needed.
- David Mitchell, Lisburn
Just heard your last show Steve. Sorry to see it go. Took Ohio (Over The Rhine album) round Europe and Africa this summer. It’s something else.
- Sam Dawson, Belfast
Steve, just to say congrats for putting on an excellent radio show. Sad to see it go.
- Alan Glendenning
Well well well.. who wuda thought? Couldn't believe it last Sunday on the way home from church listening to your good self..10 and a half years and R&S is no more. What happened? it all seems so sudden. R & S has been part of this big lads life for probably 10 of those years. I can remember sitting up for the show when it used to be on at 10pm. absolutely exhausted as i get up at 5am. But I wouldn't miss it. My Sunday nights then revolved around me being able to listen to the show. and I used to tape it on a regular basis and then listen again in the car…remember those days…ape players in car? And as for those 'depth charges' many a week my thoughts were based around something I heard for the wise Rev Stocki and/or a tune that exploded with truth in my heart... Your poem Skeletons was a real inspiration for me at the time I heard it I still read the skeletons book. I think that poem would be a good way to end the R&S era for me it sums up the show and what it was for me. And talking of tunes my goodness you've introduced me to 'bucketloads' of stuff. Some of my favourite artists now I heard first on R&S.. I recently made a list of songs that have made me think and challenged my walk or have been depth charges and lots of them I heard first on R&S. (I call it 'songs that make me go hmmm, I'm gonna write about them sometime and stick them on the www)
Well Steve the last 10+ years have been great. Thanks
Thanks for challenging me, for making me mad because I didn't agree with something you said and i had to think about why I believe what I believe, for the tunes, for the poems, for sharing your walk with us and for making, at least, think out side the box. You may be getting your Sunday after noon's back ( and enjoy them) but we (I'm) losing something I held dear. I'm gonna miss that accent on a Sunday or week day on listen again. You've been a blessing. Have a good whatever your off to next.blessings
