Rhythm and Soul - The radio show, Sunday 10.03pm on 94.5FM

The Show, 23/05/2004

Two things sent this show into motion. The first was a surprise ticket to Chris Rea at The Waterfront in Belfast (see review elsewhere on site). I thought Rea took jazz blues and put them brilliantly close to Gospel making a fascinating head-on collision of painful reality and hopeful healing. I then took two recent releases where Jesus and God get bad press – Morrissey and Allison Moorer – and clashed the faith against the agnostic atheism to get an interesting hue!

DELIRIOUS? – Rain Down

SUMMERSALT – Boomerang

CHRIS REA – Sun Is Rising
(from Dancing Down The Stony Road – all good record shops)

MORRISSEY – I Have Forgiven Jesus
(from You Are The Quarry – all good record shops)

RICH MULLINS – Hard
(from A Liturgy, A Legacy and a Ragamuffin Band – Christian Bookshops)

ALLISON MOORER – The Duel

ANDREW PETERSON – The Silence Of God
(from Love and Thunder – Christian Bookshops)
