Stocki Makes the Belfast Telegraph
I'm so disappointed to hear that Radio Ulster's Rhythm and Soul show, hosted by Steve Stockman on Sunday nights, is going off the air. In a country which has defined and defiled itself using the excuse of the flavour of its religion, Stocki put togther a radio show which weave past division to create a knickerbocker glory, a multi-flavoured musical treat for all. Through the power of the internet, the show became an hour-long spiritual space for listeners all around the world; for those of all faiths an none yet discovered.
For once, Northern Irish religion had a reputation for being uplifting and non-discriminatory. In these important days when our part of the island might be able to put itself back together again, I would have thought that the healing power of radio was one that we could ill-afford to discard. We have long shown that we have rhythm - in the Lambeg drum and the bodhran - but it's not often that we get to show our soul.
