Distracted
Flying over the hills of Donegal
In mist like Americans are expecting
Covering it in mystic beauty
That us Irish are neglecting
We love what we take for granted
What we end up ignoring most
Like mountains when we live in the shadow
Like the ocean if we're by the coast.
So forgive me when I am distracted
By things less amazing than you
When it looks like I don't love you enough
Please know how much I do.
These are the streets and rivers and houses
Where I adventured into discovery
That the good is way beyond wonderful
And the bad has hope of a recovery
Sometimes its easier to see the skelfs
That blurs the view of your people
Than to rejoice in all the benefits
Conducting through our precious steeples.
So forgive me when I am distracted
By things less amazing than you
When it looks like I don't love you enough
Please know how much I do.
Please know you're God's greatest miracle
The ridiculous lavish of grace
The song that sings from your sweet soul
In the smile of your sacred face
Please know that no distance in the universe
Could keep our thoughts apart
Please know that nothing in your lifetime
Can knock you off the throne in my heart.
