Book reviews - Reading of Redemption
The Salesman - Joseph O'Connor
Set in south Dublin this is a book of a man having to deal with revenge or forgiveness - what is the
best solution. His daughter having been left in a coma by a Petrol Station robbery our mainman, Billy
Sweeney, sets out for revenge and the book is him writing the story in diary form for his daughter in
case she awakens after he has gone. Determined to reek a torturous revenge Sweeney captures his victim
the criminal and leaves him for days in the Avery at the bottom of his garden. The rest is the battle
as to what is the way to freedom for everyone involved. Gripping, brutal, sensitive and wise.
