Book reviews - Reading of Redemption
Grace Notes - Bernard McLaverty
Almost a Booker Prize for NI writer McLaverty who of course gave us Cal and Lamb in the 80's. Again this
one is set in mid Ulster with a generation gap dilemma for a traditional Roman Catholic family and their
Queen's Music graduate daughter who has had a child out of wedlock in Scotland. The struggle is real on
both sides of the religious divide and Bernard has made you feel part of a tragic story with lessons for
us all. If you are into your classical music you will love this even more as it describes in close detail
all kinds of musical pieces. It is a sad and beautiful world.
